Sponsorship... There is another name for compassion in Washington, Allegheny and Greene counties. We're called Pet Search. Perhaps you're already familiar with us... Maybe you have seen us fundraising at festivals, malls, dog and cat shows, flea markets and craft fairs. Maybe you have witnessed our rescue efforts from sewers, parks, dumpsters, abandoned buildings, interstates and airport runways. Or was it you who alerted us to the abandoned pet in your neighborhood or had to heartbreakingly give up your own pet? If so, we were there...without cost. Pet Search was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in September 1996 as an effective and humane approach to noneuthenasia for homeless domestic animals. Since then, many dogs, cats, puppies and kittens have passed through our foster home program. Each animal is checked by a veterinarian and receives inoculations appropriate for its age. If the animal is six months or older, it is neutered or spayed while being cared for in a member's home. No animal in our care is ever put to death unless a veterinarian decides that the health of the animal warrants it. The foster home keeps the animal as long as necessary while it wait to be adopted. It is nursed to health if necessary, socialized with the family and their pets and adopted into a responsible, permanent home. Do you have room in your heart but not your home for a foster pet? The average animal's stay in a foster home is one month, and the cost incurred by the foster home is at least $50, plus food, a collar and any unforeseen expenses. Frankly, we could use a little help from our friends! We're not asking for you to be a foster home. Rather, we are asking for you to sponsor a homeless animal to help defray the financial burden that Pet Search is faced with each time an animal is taken in.
